Vernonia
'Over My Head'
hybrida
Our second ironweed, this seedling of Vernonia altissima likely has 'Southern Cross' as the other parent. Substantial plants grow very tall. Foliage reaches one inch wide by eight to ten inches long, giving the whole plant a semi-tropical feel due to its abundance. Large clusters of one-inch purple flowers bloom on wide open panicles, attracting pollinators. Average soil is best.
